Assessing landscape nutritional quality for koalas
Tender ID: 526391
Tender Details
Tender Description
This tender is to procure a suitably qualified, skilled and experienced team of scientists to collect and analyse baseline data on eucalypt tree species and nutritional quality for koalas at a subset of baseline sites across NSW.
The NSW Government is conducting a statewide baseline survey of koalas as part of the NSW Koala Strategy to obtain more precise information on their current distribution and abundance. The aims are to model current distribution, improve understanding of how koala occurrence and relative abundance vary, increase precision of estimates of koala numbers and provide a basis for developing strategic monitoring programs.
The goal of this project is to estimate the distribution and abundance of koalas in NSW using occupancy and relative abundance models. We will use environmental data from remote sensing or field surveys to predict the variation in relative abundance across the state. This includes tree species and nutritional quality as covariates. These covariates are known to affect koala presence in local studies but have not been tested at a statewide scale. They will help us to better understand the drivers of koala occupancy.
