Tender Description
Regional artists are being encouraged to get involved in the third Pop Up North Queensland event later this year.
A team from Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts ( Umbrella) visited Charters Towers recently to meet with artists from the region.
The information session had a great response from a variety of local artists and art organisations such as Mike
Carney Creative Industries Centre, Charters Towers Pottery and the Don Roderick Gallery, which shared a great enthusiasm for the festival.
Umbrella director Kate O’hara said PUNQ was a 10day place-making visual and performance art festival.
Ms O’hara said the festival would engage with audiences through exhibitions, site-specific installations, performances and workshops by North Queensland artists through pop-up art programs.
“Umbrella wants to showcase the unique arts and cultural offerings of Charters Towers and are seeking proposals from artists, arts and cultural organisations business in the region PUNQ 2021,” she said.
Possible program ideas include exhibitions, arts and cultural shops, installations, creative workshops, performances and film screenings.
An expression of interest call out is under way, with an online form to complete that is available on the Umbrella website.
Mike Carney Creative Industries Centre co-ordinator Su Mclennan said the centre and for was excited to be involved in the festival this year.
Ms Mclennan said they saw a huge benefit for businesses and creatives in the Charters Towers region.
“We are delighted to be working with Umbrella Studio and for us the opportunity to host an exhibition by a First Nations artist (emerging) based in Charters Towers to develop a solo exhibition professionally curated for the PUNQ 2021 program is incredible,” she said.
“The call out is happening now and it could be you. Just pick up the phone and check out this opportunity.
“We also are thrilled at the opportunity that the promotional and marketing collateral will offer our region and support the arts trail focus that the Charters Towers Regional Council is working hard to achieve.”
