Tender Description
A priority for the Cancer Institute NSW (the Institute) is to reduce the use of tobacco, including by embedding smoking cessation interventions as routine practice in health services.
The Excellence in Smoking Cessation Training, Education and Resources (ESTER) project aims to improve access, uptake and quality of smoking cessation training in NSW through the implementation of the NSW Smoking Cessation Training Plan: Building workforce capabilities in NSW 2021-2023 (the Plan). The four key strategies within the Plan are:
• Provide leadership and establish governance structures
• Develop training standards
• Develop training to address workforce needs
• Strengthen training system enablers.
The scope of this RFQ is to develop high-quality training for health professionals and community sector workers who play a critical role in delivering smoking cessation interventions. This will include standard modules suitable for all health professionals and community workers, and tailored modules for those working in specific clinical services or with priority groups.
Training required includes competency-based smoking cessation e-learning and face-to-face/webinar-based training packages that include curriculum outlines, lesson plans, PowerPoint slides, participant workbooks, video resources, knowledge and practical assessment guidelines and tools.
Training will be aligned to the NSW Standard and will address identified gaps in training quality and access, build workforce capabilities across the state, and establish training pathways to support different intervention delivery levels and meet the needs of people who smoke.
