Tender Description
The area from Rowe Street down to Ailsa Street and the Fords Creek region has experienced significant flooding and drainage issues. Notably, the corner of Rowe Street and Ailsa Street falls within the Urban Flood Zone (UFZ). The drainage system along the east side of Rowe Street appears to be undersized, resulting in the entire road being flooded during rain events.
Several inlet pipes, including a 600mm pipe from Highton Lane and a 900mm pipe from Malcolm Street, feed into the Rowe Street drainage system. The existing infrastructure is insufficient to handle the volume of water from the large stormwater catchment zone, particularly as this is the final section before water flows into Fords Creek. Consequently, the current drainage setup on Rowe Street leads to significant flooding issues, affecting both the road and the frontages of nearby properties.
To address this problem, Council awarded a contract to Partnear in the 2022/23 financial year through its procurement process to propose a design to address the ongoing issue. Further redesign was required to account for the upgraded drainage that is proposed on Highton Lane as part of IMPACT. The proposed design includes the installation of larger reinforced concrete pipes (RCP), headwalls, side entry pits (SEP), grated pits (GP), kerbs, and crossovers.
