Tender ID: 570272
Tender Details
Tender Description
Horizon Power is a State owned vertically integrated government trading entity responsible for the generation, distribution and retailing of electricity in regional Western Australia. Horizon Power is Western Australia's regional and remote electricity provider.
We are a State Government-owned, commercially-focused corporation that provides quality, safe and reliable power to more than 100,000 residents and 10,000 businesses, including major industry in regional towns and remote communities across Western Australia.
The Murdoch (MDR) Zone Substation has three 15 MVA 66/22 kV power transformers. These transformers are now over 40 years old,
- Transformers 1 (T1) and 3 (T3) were installed in 1975.
- Transformer 2 (T2) was installed in 1982.
The transformers are routinely tested to assess their condition. In 2023, Horizon Power engaged a Contractor to undertake a condition assessment of these three transformers. The condition assessment estimated remaining life of MDR T2 is about 7 years.
T2 has been flagged as the highest risk transformer
Given the:
- age of the transformers at the Murdoch Substation,
- poor condition of the transformers, particularly MDR T2,
- safety risks associated with a transformer failure, and
- expected load growth
The proposal is to replace one 15 MVA transformer at the MDR Zone Substation (MDR T2) with a 45 MVA transformer by 2025 and replace transformer T1 and T3 with another new transformer by 2028.
