Edward River Council is seeking a locally based independent member for its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).

About you:

You are a passionate supporter of transparent and open governance that upholds the standards of the community. You possess significant experience at the senior level in the administration and management of complex organisations. You are a cooperative team member with strong negotiation and communication skills.

Candidates must be locally based for the duration of the appointment and possess knowledge and experience of the Edward River local government area.

About the role:

As the locally based independent member of the ARIC, your role will be crucial in enhancing Council’s governance framework, risk management practices, control, strategy, and performance environment. In particular, your knowledge and experience of the Edward River local government area will provide valuable insight for the Committee.

Specifically, the responsibility of the Committee is to keep under review the following operational aspects:

(a) compliance

(b) risk management

(c) fraud control

(d) financial management

(e) governance

(f) implementation of the strategic plan, delivery program and strategies

(g) service reviews

(h) collection of performance measurement data by the council, and

(i) any other matters prescribed by the regulation.

Do you have these key attributes:

We are looking for individuals who demonstrate:

Strict independence to ensure unbiased advice and assessment.

Ability to read and understand financial statements.

Capacity to understand the ethical requirements of government.

Functional knowledge in areas such as risk management, performance management, human resources management, internal and external auditing, financial reporting, accounting, management control frameworks, governance, or business operations.

Capacity to form independent judgments and willingness to challenge management practices.

Effective communication skills and the ability to build relationships.

Commitment to devote necessary time and effort to Committee responsibilities.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

extensive senior level experience in governance and management of complex organisations, and

possession of a relevant professional qualification or membership (e.g., Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), CPA Australia (CPA) and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA)).
